Imogen Cunningham

BIO

The artist I chose is Imogen Cunningham. She was born in Portland Oregon in 1883 but she grew up in Seattle and she went to university of Washington.   Early in her career she did scientific photographs but she eventually moved on to do street photography and portraits. Her work was displayed in many locations including The Los Angelos County Museum, and The International Museum of Photography in New York. Some of the main locations she worked in are California, New York and Germany. She was a member of the f 64 group.  Her work was bought by the library of congress and The Smithsonian Institution. She had a book published by the University of Washington. In June of 1976 she died having had a very successful career in photography.

Documentary Project

I took these photos to document the people, places, and things in the city of Elk Ridge that have significance to me.  Elk Ridge is a unique place. It’s full of beautiful mountain scenery, and it has a great view of the surrounding cities. Elk Ridge is not too close to the hustle and bustle of bigger cities, but it’s not too far away either. This is the place I found my best friends. I learned to work and I had a lot of fun too. I grew up here. The experiences I had, the people I met, and the beautify scenery it’s engulfed in, gives it sweet luminance in my memories. This is what I hope to convey in my photos.
